Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Tinted Balm.

I have to admit (embarrassingly) that I hadn’t heard a lot about this tinted skin balm before I was steered towards it by the Space NK assistant, despite being a big fan of Kevyn Aucoin products. The assistant told me that it had been flying off the shelves (his words, not mine) and, upon testing it on my hand, I was sold – this is how many base products I test out, I can tell just by the look and feel of it whether I’m going to love or hate it. It sounded like exactly what I needed , and we all love a hyped up product, right? Right.
Although it’s named a Skin Tinted Balm, I have to say it sits somewhere between a tinted moisturiser and a foundation. It applies well, has a rather thick consistency and gives lovely sheer to medium coverage, whilst also looking radiant and natural on the skin. It’s very lightweight yet covers all imperfections, something I always look for in base products. I’ve been breaking out left, right and centre lately but only in one area on my face so this is perfect for giving me a minimal look to my makeup and also covering those pesky blemishes. I prefer using a small amount of a good coverage product and spending some time buffing it in than using a truck load of a sheerer counterpart. I like that this is quite like my trust ol’ Laura Mercier Silk Creme (review here) in that it has some serious lasting power. I can apply this at 8am, jog around the city and come home at the end of the day to a pretty immaculate base.
I like that this little gem has other properties too, it helps to protect the skin from sun damage and contains ingredients to treat the skin throughout the day. It’s perfect for those who like a sheer or medium coverage base product with a natural finish and I find it’s really reliable – no tops are needed throughout the day. Thoughts?
