Clinique CC Cream – £28*

I’ve been asked a few times for my thoughts on this latest release and after quite a few weeks of wear I reckon it’s high time I posted a review! We’ve now moved on from BB Creams and CC Creams are the latest base to hit the market.

I really like the Clinique Moisture Surge range (especially that delicious Overnight Mask!) so I was pretty excited to try a base that offered the same skincare benefits. As I had tried the BB Cream from Clinique and hadn’t been massively impressed, I wasn’t expecting too much from a CC Cream from the brand but how wrong I was! This product concentrates on giving skincare benefits and creating a base that protects and hydrates the skin rather than aiming to conceal imperfections like the BB Cream from the brand. The CC Cream aims to be long-lasting and oil-free and I have to say, the coverage and staying power is far, far better than any BB Cream I’ve tried! It has some of the best bits of the BB Cream but it’s on a whole ‘nother level.

The first difference I noticed is that the new cream is much thicker and creamier than the BB equivalent. It’s also a lot better coverage, as you can probably see from the above snap, my skin looks pretty darn good for not wearing a foundation! Apart from a few scars and a spot or two on my chin, my overall complexion is looking quite perky and smooth. If I was to wear a BB cream, my skin would probably look a little more glowing/sweaty and the coverage wouldn’t be as flattering and natural.

I would say that this is definitely a step in the right direction for base products; my skin is getting the nourishment and protection it needs whilst also looking as good as possible. The medium coverage product does it’s best to conceal any imperfections and signs of fatigue and the best bit is that it stays put without the need to powder! I think this was the main surprise for me, as BB Creams do have a tendency to slide off on warmer days. I would say it’s perfect for all skin types, although it is a hydrating product my skin is a little more oily than I would like and it works perfectly with my skin type.

If you haven’t given the new CC Cream a swatch, I would get yourself down to the Clinique counter STAT! What are your thoughts on the new release?

I still don’t get the difference between a BB Cream & a CC Cream to be honest, but you are looking gooorgeous!

I haven’t tried this but because I have oily, acne-prone skin I’m really not sure about using something from their Moisture Surge line! Their foundations are amazing though :)

I love the moisture surge line too! Might have to ask for a tester of this :)

Moisture Surge (the gel type cream) is so good! I keep getting the samples from various places, usually my Mam buys a couple products and gets the goody bag type gift and gives me the cream. I should really just buy a pot! Ha! You look amazing, definitely going to have to investigate CC Creams, (although I will admit the whole BB Cream / CC Cream has left me baffled somewhat!)

The Clinique CC and BB creams are completely different in terms of finish and texture. BB is matte and provides medium-full coverage (amazing for a BB since most of them I’ve found are nothing more than glorified tinted moisturisers) whereas CC provides a dewy radiant glow and is light-medium coverage. I tend to wear both as bases when working because of the SPF 30 and evening out of the skin then apply a little more coverage on top. BB works better as a base for me because my skin isn’t dry (they are both for all skin types but CC is super hydrating) but if I was to chose one to wear alone it’d be CC. It provides a healthy glow to the skin and lasts a good six-eight hours with a little powder.

In terms of shades, initially you may think they do appear dark. However once blended into skin they absorb with no tide lines and I would recommend going for the darker than you’d think. I’m casper in terms of skintone and all the very light does is wash me out. The soft peach is better but the light is like a holiday in a bottle. Doesn’t give a tanned look but instead well-rested. If in doubt a Clinique consultant would be happy to shade match or give you a sample!

I am literally OBSESSED with this. Have been for a few months now. I find BB creams really oily and make my skin look even more grease-slicked than it does normally so I too was a little apprehensive. But it’s amazing, I wear it every single day instead of foundation – my skin feels great and yeah, just the best ever!
